I wish I could say that my deciding to be a writer was something that I had always dreamed of and new was my sort of destiny. I wish I could say I knew how to type with more than just two, maybe three of my fingers.
Recap.
A year ago yesterday I started my first day of classes of the Fall 2010 semester. Significance? I was taking three classes, all prerequisites to a major that four months before I would have never considered; Advertising.
After:
-three late night Adlab parties with Kevin Kelly
-six weeks of "Keeping Tabs"
-and one _______________(adjective) trip to Denver
...Advertising has become one of my favorite things in life.

Anyone who has been remotely involved in my life over the past four months may be hard pressed to believe what I have just wrote were actions the sole expression of feeling. I don't feel alone in my experience. Have you ever had a goal, and been so dedicated to completing the steps that lead to that goal that you lose focus of the goal itself? My summer consisted of working an average of 65+ hours a week (I max-ed out at 91 hours in one week) in an effort to put myself enough ahead financially that I could dedicate more time, effort, and energy to advertising come Fall.
The result? 1) I know what it feels like to be a workaholic, 2) I still have to work as much as I can to pay for life as a college student, and 3) I now have to rekindle my passion for advertising-a fire that was once burning strong. It may still be to early to look back on this summer and say I regret how I let those months play out, but don't be surprised if I do regret it down the road.
Getting to the point, today I am putting myself back on the road to becoming the advertising genius I hope to be... or at least be more like the one that are already all over the place around me.
You're the hardest working dawg I know. ;) Serious workaholic. But that's also great because when you put your mind to something, nothing is going to stop you. That will take you far in advertising, I'm sure of it. So move over ad geniuses, make room for one more. Good luck this semester Bub! You're going to rock it.
